So far it’s all been rather somber and serious – even the “Simply Jimbalian” cake was rather withdrawn… so I’ve decided to go for a touch of whimsy this time.

I’ve been enjoying buttercream icing as a medium, but I do know that I should eventually give the other kinds of icings a try.

Roses are still my favorite though and i would like to be able to practice my skills in making roses with other mediums.

I haven’t posted cakes I’ve decorated in a while.  Well, I’m still into blue cakes – I used a blue gray cake base topped off with ivory colored buttercream.  Enjoy!

Still along the lines of my penchant for blue or bluish icing, I’ve chosen to go aqua for the base, while using a cool lemon yellow for the flowers and ribbons.  The words that pop into my mind are “fresh” and “cool”  which I did consider putting as the title – however, I decided to avoid any references which might be too reminiscent of tooth paste ads.

I’ve decided to go along the lines of something more classic, subdued, and feminine, combining dusky pink and ivory this time around.  It’s still all about roses and sampaguitas (Philippine Jasmine).

I was requested to make a traditional red themed birthday cake – so I went for the classic red roses…  a whole bouquet of vibrant red roses with red ribbons streaming out, on a bed of white.
