The presence of irreconcilable differences is a form of impasse. Something has to give. When it has gotten this far though it seems that what gives is the relationship itself.

The connection buckles under the weight of accumulated conflict and if both parties continue as they have… There would seem that there would be little hope to make the relationship work.

Some people would say that this is precisely where being flexible and learning to compromise comes in to be able to resolve the situation but it’s not a matter of one person buckling to the demands of the other but a situation where authentic dialogue and give and take would have to occur, otherwise it’s just a matter of delaying the inevitable.
